Canterbury Rams announce the signing of Alex Talma

The Canterbury Rams would like to announce the signing of Alex Talma, for the 2019 Sal’s NBL Season. This announcement comes as new Rams head coach Mick Downer’s twelfth addition to the team. Alex is currently playing for Biola University  

Alex Talma grew up in Auckland, where he played for Westlake Boys High School. After graduating high school, he travelled to the US where he spent his rookie year at Texas A&M International and then for the rest of his college career in La Mirada, California attending Biola University. Talma’s first season came in 2016 where he played all 32 games for the Eagles at high efficiency, averaging just over 8 points per game in limited minutes and had a season best 21 points in a win over Shepard. His next season, Talma started 27 games, averaging 10.6 points and 6.9 rebounds-per-game and earned NCCAA All-region second team honours. In Alex’s senior year he again improved ending the season averaging 12.2 points and 8.4 rebounds-per-game while leading the team in rebounds for the second year straight. Alex studied business at Biola and wants to enter a career in marketing management and eventually start his own business.

Mick Downer, Head Coach of the Canterbury Rams commented on Alex saying:

“We are really excited at the Rams with the addition of Alex to the roster. He is a fantastic guy, who plays with relentless toughness particularly in the rebounding contest. With his experience at college being a dominant defender and rebounder for his team we are really looking forward to Alex contributing to our group in the same way this season.”

We look forward to having Alex return to New Zealand and suit up in the red and black this year!
