Canterbury Rams announce the signing of Brent Fisher

The Canterbury Rams would like to announce the signing of Brent Fisher, for the 2019 Sal’s NBL Season. Brent is currently in preseason training with the Rams as well as working as a mechanical engineer at AMT Mechanical.

Brent Fisher grew up in Christchurch, attending Shirley Boys High School and played for many Canterbury Representative teams. Fisher was a part of the Canterbury select team which travelled to Argentina – one of his highlights in his basketball career. Fisher has previously played for the Canterbury Rams back in 2014, where his size and presence was a great addition to the team and will be again this year. Most recently, Brent has played for the University of Canterbury Men’s Team in the Canterbury Basketball Association Men’s Premier Grade, where in 2018 they won the Premier grade title in a tight fought final. Fisher had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the finals win. Brent was also a part of the Canterbury Knights team which travelled over to Melbourne, Australia for 6 games where they played some of the Big V League teams. The Knights then travelled to Otago, winning three out of three where Brent played an instrumental role in their success, averaging double figures in points and rebounds.  

Rams Head Coach Mick Downer commented on Fisher saying:

“The beauty of every club is the diversity in the team, with players from all sorts of backgrounds and lifestyles. Having Brent who is professionally an engineer by day but committing to a full training load for the Rams is both unique and special. Brent’s consistency, work ethic and growth mindset is helping him make valuable contributions to our team. He has great shooting touch for a big and is a strong physical presence in the paint at both ends of the floor. It’s a pleasure having a guy with such great character be a part of our group.”

The Rams are coming off a season in which 6,000 attended the Rams vs Saints game at Horncastle Arena which was a Sals NBL Record Crowd.  The team is looking forward to taking 2 games to Horncastle Arena in 2019.  Tickets are on sale now for all of our 2019 Sals NBL home games!
