Canterbury Rams announce the signing of Jonathan Janssen

The Canterbury Rams would like to announce the signing of Jonathan Janssen, for the 2019 Sal’s NBL Season. This announcement comes as new Rams head coach Mick Downer’s tenth addition to the team.

Janssen was born in Noosa Heads, Australia and he went to school at Mountain Creek State High School in Queensland, Australia. He started his college career at Cleveland State University (US) in Cleveland, Ohio. After 2 seasons at Cleveland State he moved to Hawaii Pacific University (HPU), where he has been apivotal in the last 3 seasons for the HPU Sharks. This included helping HPU win the PacWest conference in 2017 and make the second round of the NCAA DII tournament. In his Junior season he averaged 14 Points and 7 rebounds a game while shooting 39% from 3. This season he was the Preseason PacWest Conference player of the year. Jono is a very skilled big man who shoots a high percentage from 3, can post up and  rebounds well on both ends.

Rams Head Coach, Mick Downer recently commented on Janssen saying:

“We are really excited to sign Jono and have him coming in to start his professional career in Canterbury. He is a versatile player 6’9 big man who can play inside and on the perimeter. “

Janssen is going to be a great part of the Rams for 2019 and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the court in the red and black singlet!  Jonathan Janssen has a New Zealand passport and will play as a local player.

The Rams are coming off a season in which 6,000 attended the Rams vs Saints game at Horncastle Arena which was a Sals NBL Record Crowd.  The team is looking forward to taking 2 games to Horncastle Arena in 2019.
