Free Agent Announcement Brings Britt Home

Tall Black Taylor Britt will return to the Rams in 2022, great news for Canterbury as the National Basketball League (NBL) free agency opened this week.

NBL teams vied to bolster their stocks of local talent with experience from around the world.

According to Canterbury Rams General Manager Caleb Harrison, the signing fulfils key criteria, in terms of leadership, locally grown talent and community focus.

“It has been exciting seeing Taylor’s development on and off the court. He brings a great deal of experience, having played for the Rams, Wildcats and Tall Blacks. We are excited to have Taylor lead the Rams in 2022.”

Britt was part of a championship-winning squad with the Perth Wildcats in 2020.

He played Canterbury representative basketball from U13 to U23 level, earning a spot on the New Zealand Select Team (2018), at the FIBA U23 3×3 World Cup in China (2019) & 2019 FIBA World Cup Squad. His first season with the Canterbury Rams was 2015 having been part of the Mainland Eagles Academy while attending Papanui High School.  Taylor went to study on a US College basketball scholarship at Southeast Community College before heading back to play for the Rams in 2017.  Taylor has also played touch rugby & softball at the representative level.

Alongside his impressive international resume, Britt brings along a special interest in the development of the game at the grass roots level. He has made a commitment to support the franchise in a coaching capacity and will be actively involved with the wider Canterbury Rams community programmes.

Incumbent Rams Head Coach Judd Flavell is thrilled to see Britt establish his base at Cowles Stadium.

“The very first player I got excited about working with when I came on board with the Rams was Taylor Britt. I have watched his journey closely since he was part of our Junior National programme, and I’ve been a big fan ever since.

“Taylor is our starting point guard and team leader, who will play a massive role in shaping the Rams team for 2022 and beyond.”
