CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand — Proven NZNBL star Todd Withers is bringing his elite two-way talents to the Canterbury Rams for the 2026 Sal’s NBL season.
Withers has had a decorated career in the Sal’s NBL so far, winning the 2022 Grand Final with the Otago Nuggets and being named to the 2023 All-Star Five, sporting averages of 18.3 points and 3.8 three-pointers made per game at a blistering 41.6% clip.
“It’s been a long time coming for Todd, and we’re thrilled to have him suit up in the red and black this season,” said Head Coach Quinn Clinton. “He brings exactly what we’re looking for in terms of identity. Todd possesses the ability to stretch the floor, defend multiple positions, and play with relentless effort, which is incredibly exciting for our group.”
The American forward has two full seasons of NZNBL play under his belt, having also made a brief appearance for Otago this past season. Providing them with temporary cover, Withers averaged 20.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
“I’m truly excited to be with the team and to be able to show what I can do,” said Withers. “Be ready for a lot of energy! The sky is the limit for this group. Can’t wait to show that to the fans and the league.”

Withers provides the team with a surplus of international experience, having played professionally in Israel, Turkey, Italy, and Australia for the Adelaide 36ers and Perth Wildcats.
“What’s been most impressive is how quickly he’s connected with the team while continuing to challenge those around him,” added Clinton. “In a short amount of time, he’s already made a strong impact within our group. We firmly believe his best basketball is still ahead of him, and we’re looking forward to him having a big season for our collective.”
When asked on the impact he’s able to bring to the Rams, Withers described himself as a “swiss army knife”. “I’ll do whatever my team needs me to do to help us win,” he said.
We have an exciting season ahead that begins at home on April 19. Be there for our home opener where we’ll face off against the Wellington Saints in the first-ever professional basketball game at our new homecourt, Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre!
