20-year-old guard Kaia Isaac has re-signed with the Canterbury Rams for the 2024 Sal’s NBL season.
Isaac took a huge step forward in his second season with the Rams in 2023, joining the Rams’ nightly rotation and logging 12.4 minutes per game across 18 appearances. Isaac’s three-point shooting proved to be deadly as his 43.5% clip from deep put him amongst the league’s best marksmen.
“We’re looking forward to Kaia taking another step up,” said Head Coach Judd Flavell. “There’s going to be another big opportunity for him to come in, play that guard position and be able to be someone that can carry the ball handling duties or play off the ball.”
After the conclusion of the Sal’s NBL season, Isaac joined the BBQs Direct Rams for the annual 3×3 Cup. Not only did the Rams walk away with the 3×3 Cup title but Isaac was also named MVP of the competition and earned All-Star 4 honours. Isaac has also spent the offseason training as a practice player with the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian NBL, making him one of multiple Rams players supported by the club to pursue development opportunities outside of the NZNBL season.
“Last year his shot making from behind the three-point line really came on strong,” noted Flavell. “He’s just a great kid that’s really keen to learn. For such a young player, he’s a major piece to our culture.”
