Rams Re-Sign Marco Sula

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand — Join us in welcoming back St Bede’s sensation Marco Sula for his second season as a development player with the Canterbury Rams.

“Marco has shown strong commitment this offseason, with his consistency and daily approach to improvement really standing out,” said Head Coach Quinn Clinton.

The 17-year-old wing logged his first minutes of Sal’s NBL action in 2025 against the Southland Sharks. Despite being a late addition to last year’s squad, Sula played valuable minutes in Rapid League, averaging 4.3 points and 4.0 rebounds.

“I am very blessed and grateful to be in the Rams environment, it’s been awesome to learn so much already and grow as a player and a person,” said Sula. “I’m really excited to compete and give my best for the team and organisation.”

Sula played a key role for New Zealand at the FIBA U16 Asia Cup this past September. Across 6 games, he recorded averages of 12.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, contributing towards New Zealand’s third-place finish.

“He brings great versatility to our group, and we’re excited to see him continue to push himself and grow every day,” said Clinton.

“I really want to improve on the defensive end, being able to guard through all positions at a high level is something I want to be great at on and off the ball,” added Sula. “And then being able to shoot the ball consistently like trying to stretch the defense out and use that as a way to be a threat on the offensive side. And then becoming more lag free as that’s part of the Rams identity.”

We have an exciting season ahead that begins at home on April 19. Be there for our home opener where we’ll face off against the Wellington Saints in the first-ever professional basketball game in Parakiore!
