Next season will see a familiar face return to the Rams with Ben Sheat joining Adam Morgan as Judd Flavell’s assistant coaches.
Ben was an assistant under former Rams Head Coach Mark Dickel from 2016 to 2018 before making the jump to Christ’s College where he is currently a P.E. teacher, the Head of Basketball and the Christ’s Senior A Head Coach.
“Ben is a well-respected coach here in New Zealand, Rams General Manager Caleb Harrison explains. “Through his high school coaching at Cashmere High School, Christ’s College, alongside being the New Zealand U17 Men’s assistant coach and Canterbury U17 Head Coach, his expertise and experience will be an asset to the Rams organisation.”
“In these early stages I have really enjoyed seeing how Judd, Adam and Ben work together and compliment each other. They all have great relationships with our players and are aligned organisationally with developing the junior talent throughout the region and equally importantly preparing our core group for a successful upcoming Rams season.”
Incoming Rams Head Coach Judd Flavell talked on the appointment saying “I am really excited to have Ben join up with Adam and I in the Rams coaching staff. Ben is one of the top up and coming coaches and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him. I have already seen the qualities that both Ben and Adam will add to our programme with their attention to detail, passion and hunger to learn.”
Formerly the Head Coach of the Mainland Eagles Academy, Ben has been instrumental in the academy’s growth and the increased number of South Island athletes going to US College, Junior National Teams & Professional careers since the Academy began in 2014.
“Ben understands our organisational values, Caleb Harrison mentioned. “Supporting the development of our young up and comers alongside investing in our core group of players key to a successful season on the court.”
