Rising St Thomas of Canterbury star Mana Martin has signed an amateur contract with the Canterbury Rams for the 2024 Sal’s NBL Season.
Martin’s versatility and impact on both sides of the ball has been on full display at the high school level for a highly successful St Thomas programme. The 16-year-old swingman won the 2023 Thompson Trophy Finals MVP award after recording a statline of 28 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists in a win over Christ’s College.
“Mana has a great basketball frame and the way he shoots the ball is for real. It’s probably the most exciting thing he has right now,” said Head Coach Judd Flavell. “He’s got an innate ability to shoot the ball. We’re running plays for him and he’s shooting the ball with confidence.”
Last September Martin suited up for the junior Tall Blacks at the U16 Asia Championship, where he averaged 8.0 points per game and knocked down 40% of his three point attempts. Martin’s length also proved to be disruptive on the defensive end.
“The biggest thing I’ve been impressed with is his coachability and his willingness to take on feedback,” Flavell further stated. “We see him as a shooting guard that can stretch the floor and if he gets his chances, we back him to knock it down”
