CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand – Rising Christ’s College guard Tawhiri Cate has signed as an amateur with the Rams for 2025.
“I’m really excited by Tawhiri’s dynamic skill set with the ball. His ability to break down defenders and create opportunities in the paint is something every coach looks for in his lead guards,” shared Head Coach Quinn Clinton. “What stands out even more is his defensive potential — he’s shown an eagerness to guard and continue to develop on the defensive end.”
“As his game continues to mature, I truly believe he has all the makings of a future international prospect. We’re looking forward to seeing him embrace the challenge every day in practice and gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to be a professional in our environment.”
Cate played internationally for New Zealand in November at the 2024 FIBA U15 Oceania Cup. Across 5 games, he averaged 9.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. He was also a contributor to the Christ’s College Secondary Schools Nationals championship team this past High School season.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the Rams this year, it holds a lot for me and my progression for these upcoming years. But a very big year and an exciting one for me,” said Cate on joining the team.
