We’re Hiring a Strength & Conditioning Head Coach

The Canterbury Regional Basketball Foundation (CRBF) is looking for a Strength & Conditioning Head Coach to work across the Canterbury Rams, Mainland Pouākai and Mainland Eagles programmes.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with athletes at all levels—from developing young players through to supporting our National League teams. You’ll work closely with coaches and players to help athletes improve performance, reduce injury risk and reach their potential.

Key Responsibilities

Mainland Eagles

    • Lead the year-round Strength & Conditioning programme for Mainland Eagles athletes.

    • Plan and deliver academy training sessions.

    • Monitor athlete wellbeing, workload and physical development.

    • Work closely with athletes, parents, schools, clubs and coaches.

    • Coordinate testing, athlete monitoring and performance reporting.

    • Lead strength and conditioning components at Eagles camps.

  • Support athlete education around performance, recovery and healthy habits.

Canterbury Rams

    • Plan and deliver the Rams Strength & Conditioning programme.

    • Attend training sessions, home games and performance meetings.

    • Work closely with coaches to support player performance and injury prevention.

    • Utilise athlete monitoring technology, including GPS and force platforms where appropriate.

  • Contribute to an integrated high-performance environment.

Mainland Pouākai

    • Plan and deliver the Pouākai Strength & Conditioning programme.

    • Attend training sessions, home games and performance meetings.

    • Work closely with coaches to support player performance and injury prevention.

    • Utilise athlete monitoring technology, including GPS and force platforms where appropriate.

    • Contribute to an integrated high-performance environment.


About You

Ideally you’ll have:

    • A qualification in Strength & Conditioning, Exercise Science or a related field.

    • Experience working with athletes in a high-performance or team sport environment.

    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

    • Excellent organisation and planning skills.

    • The ability to work independently while contributing to a wider performance team.

    • A current Full New Zealand Driver Licence.

    • The legal right to work in New Zealand.

Experience working in basketball would be an advantage but is not essential.


What we’re offering

    • Minimum 20 hours per week, with the opportunity for additional hours by agreement.

    • Remuneration of $25,000–$65,000 per annum, depending on qualifications, experience, agreed responsibilities and hours of work.

    • A 12-month fixed-term position, starting in August 2026. This position is fixed term due to current programme funding and operational requirements.
