BBQs Direct Canterbury Rams Win 2023 3×3 Cup, Kaia Isaac Wins MVP

After playing sixteen games across four days, the BBQs Direct Canterbury Rams have come out on top, winning the 2023 3×3 Cup with a 21-13 victory over the Wellington Saints. 

The quartet of Aidan Tonge, Taylor Britt, Kaia Isaac and Kaleb Chamberlain had a dominant showing, dropping just two games in total while piling up fourteen wins. “They’re a really good group with high character and made my job super easy. They deserve all the success they’ve been able to have throughout the year in both the NBL season and now the 3×3 space,” said coach Liam Connelly.

“The format of the competition is a massive grind, but the group made sure to take lessons from every single one of our games,” Liam explained. “That really allowed us to continue to get better as the week progressed, to peak through the playoff run, and come away with the Rams double title for the year.”

Britt and Tonge returned from last year’s Canterbury Rams squad that came up short in the grand final against the Southland Sharks. “It’s an amazing feeling,” said Tonge after eclipsing the championship this time round. “[It was] unfortunate not to get it last year but getting it this year just makes it that much better.”

The accolades did not stop there for the 3×3 Rams as the 20-year-old Kaia Isaac took home the 3×3 MVP award and All-Star 4 honours. The up-and-coming sharpshooter strung together several net-scorching performances en route to winning the competition.
