Rams announce the addition of Reuben Te Rangi for the 2020 Sals NBL Showdown

The Canterbury Rams would like to announce the addition of Reuben Te Rangi for the remainder of the 2020 Sal’s NBL Showdown. Reuben is the current Tall Blacks captain and has a successful CV including two Australian NBL championships, three New Zealand NBL Championships, a Commonwealth Games Bronze medal with the Tall Blacks and various player awards throughout his 9-year pro career including the NZNBL Finals MVP in 2018.

The Rams had a strong start to the Sal’s NBL Showdown winning the first 3 games while overcoming injuries to Jack Salt & Joe Cook-Green. The team has been led by Taylor Britt, Alex Talma and Sam Smith and have shown some impressive grit in recent weeks. The team has recently had an injury to Toby Gillooly with him expecting to return to play in the coming week. The steady improvement over the past week has seen the continued development of US college scholarship bound players including Tom Webley, Ben Carlile-Smith, Mac Stodart & Mason Whittaker. “We thought it was important to bring in a player like Reuben who can share his experience with our developing players and ensure they continue to grow as players and as a team through the remainder of the Sal’s NBL Showdown,” stated Rams General Manager, Caleb Harrison.

Reuben has most recently been a member of the Brisbane Bullets, playing alongside 2019 Ram Cameron Gliddon and has also played under Mick Downer while with the Bullets. Mick Downer commented on the addition of Te Rangi saying “We are really excited to have a player of Reuben’s calibre wear the Rams jersey. His experience internationally and winning attitude coming from winning programs will really help our group. Most importantly though he is a great guy off the court.”

The Rams have 5 games remaining before the Sal’s NBL playoff’s begin. The league is one of the only basketball leagues being played in the world currently and has resulted in unprecedented television coverage, including 10 games a week locally and being broadcast internationally on ESPN.  With all games centralised in Auckland, the Rams are having weekly watch parties for the games at Robbies Riccarton Restaurant & Bar including on the 16th & 25th July before the playoff’s begin.
