Rams Announce The Signing of Zach Hannen

The Canterbury Rams are excited to announce the signing of Zach Hannen for the 2021 Sal’s NBL Season.

Coming straight out of high school into the Rams team, Zach has made a positive impression is his first NBL preseason. He is another exciting young talent here in Canterbury, who played his basketball at Middleton Grange School.

Zach had a successful two years with the Middleton team, in 2019 being a main starting piece of the Thompson Trophy and South Island championship winning team and then going on to win Middleton Grange Basketball MVP the following year.

He has extended his game and experience since a young age, attending the New Zealand U16 training camp in 2016 and then playing for various Canterbury representative A teams. Including the Canterbury U19 team which placed third at the National tournament in 2019. Zach received Most Improved Player in both 2017 and 2019 at the Canterbury Basketball Rep Academy awards night.

Zach is also a Mainland Eagles Academy athlete, who is planning to go over to the USA on a college scholarship later this year. The academy provided great development opportunities on and off the court for Zach, including the Eagles Australian Tour in early 2020 where he played against the likes of the Brisbane Bullets Development Squad and NBA Global Academy team.

Rams Head Coach Mick Downer is thrilled to have Zach on board this season saying “The little general Zach… don’t be fooled by his youthful looks and friendly demeanour. Zach is a tough, demanding and fierce competitor. Although not long out of high school Zach plays with the maturity of a seasoned veteran. He sees and reads the game very well. Is quick, can attack the rim, pull up or shoot the deep 3, but it is his floor general abilities and defensive tenacity that really has us excited at the club.”
