Rams Refine Roster for Season Start

Nic Book Confirms Signing for 2022

Counting down to the start of their season on April 30th, the Canterbury Rams today confirmed the signing of Nic Book. Book is following in the footsteps of his older brother Josh, who also recently signed onto the 2022 Canterbury Rams squad.

According to Canterbury Rams General Manager Caleb Harrison, “Book adds strength to a squad built on youth, energy and community ties.”

Book will be attending the National Basketball Association (NBA) Global Academy Training Camp in Canberra from 18 – 24 March. NBA Global Academy is a partnership with Basketball Australia and serves as the NBA’s hub for top male and female prospects from outside the U.S. Up to 16 elite athletes attend NBA Global Academy each year and train under the supervision of NBA-hired coaches, and in collaboration with BA’s Centre of Excellence team and coaches.

Book comes from a remarkable basketball lineage; his father Ed, was a hero of the New Zealand team’s World Championship campaign in 2002. His mother Lisa was part of the Junior Tall Ferns program, with brother Josh a member of the U19 NZ Squad and sister Aimee Book currently on scholarship at Fresno State University in the US.

“Nic will benefit our organisation with his appetite to grow, develop and succeed,” Harrison points out.

If selected as a member of the New Zealand U16 squad, Book will play in the FIBA U16 Asian Championship (12-19 June in Kuwait), hoping to earn a place at the FIBA U17 World Cup (2-10 July in Spain).

He is a member of the Mainland Eagles Academy, with experience from the Canterbury U17 National Championship team and U17 National Tournament team.

In the top-ranked Christ College starting side, Book plays for Canterbury Rams Assistant Coach Ben Sheat.

According to Christ’s College Head Coach and Rams Assistant Coach Ben Sheat: “Nic is a hard worker in all aspects of his life. It is great seeing his work ethic pay off, with him being part of the Rams team for the 2022 season.”
