Rams Sign American Forward KJ Buffen

The Canterbury Rams lock in their third and final import for the 2024 Sal’s NBL season with the signing of KJ Buffen.

The 6’8” do-it-all forward spent three seasons at the University of Mississippi before transferring to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). During his senior season at UAB, he averaged a collegiate career-high 10.6 points alongside 6.7 rebounds per game.

“I’m excited by the all-roundedness he brings,” said Head Coach Judd Flavell. “I feel like he’s a guy who can get things down at both ends. He’s very versatile and can slide up and down positions.”

Buffen is currently playing his first professional season in Finland for Kobrat. There he has showcased an expanding offensive game, averaging 14.9 points per game. Due to an overlap in schedules, Buffen is likely to miss a couple of games at the start of the NZNBL season as he sees out his Finnish season.

“Buffen is a pick-your-poison type of scorer, being able to put the ball on the floor or hurt you from outside as a much improved spot-up shooter,” said Director of Scouting Tim Smith. “I think he can be a point of stability for us across the board on merit of his jack-of-all-trades skillset and balanced athletic profile.”

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to round out the Rams roster for the 2024 Sal’s NBL season!
