The Canterbury Rams Announce the signing of Xavier Cooks for the 2020 Sals NBL Season

The Canterbury Rams would like to announce the signing of Xavier Cooks, for the 2020 Sal’s NBL Season. This announcement comes as Rams head coach Mick Downer’s seventh player signing.

Currently playing for the Sydney Kings in the NBL Grand Finals, Xavier Cooks has been a standout, energy player for the team. Including a player of the game performance in the King’s Game 3 Semi Final win over Melbourne United recently. He is currently on a multi year deal so will return to the Kings next NBL season. Cooks is also teammates with Shaun Bruce, another one of our import players for this 2020 Sals NBL Season.

In addition to the Kings, Xavier has had NBA Summer League experience with the Golden State Warriors and then the Phoenix Suns. In 2018 he had a season with German outfit S.Oliver Würzburg, where he was an X-factor for the squad averaging 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists playing in the prestigious Europe Cup and Germany’s top league the BBL. Xavier was a part of the Australian Boomers 2019 FIBA World Cup squad.

Cooks attended Winthrop college where he was named Big South Player of the Year in 2018.

Rams head coach Mick Downer commented on Xavier saying “We welcome with immense excitement Xavier to our Rams family. It is a testament to our club’s management and strong culture that an international player of Xavier’s ability believes the Rams is a great place for him to continue his journey. This is a huge signing, not just for the Rams but for the Sal’s NBL. Xavier’s currently battling in the Australian NBL Grand Final series and will join the team shortly after the season. Xavier will bring toughness, versatility, athleticism, and a winning attitude to our locker room. With NBA potential, the future is extremely bright and Rams fans should be excited about seeing such a high calibre player wearing the red and black this season.”

Xavier will be joining six other Rams player signings including Alex Talma, Jack Salt, Jono Janssen, Taylor Britt, Shaun Bruce and EJ Singler. The Rams first home game is on 11th April vs Taranaki Airs at Cowles Stadium and will open up what is becoming one of the most anticipated Sal’s NBL seasons in recent times.
